Am I the right photographer for you?

When choosing someone to photograph your family, newborn, child or high school senior portraits, it’s incredibly important to make sure that their style is a good fit for you. As much as I wish everyone would chose me, I know realistically that I am not the right photographer for everyone, and not everyone is the right client for me. I only want you to chose me IF I am the right fit. So what questions can you ask to make sure that you and I work well together?

  1. First and most importantly, have you viewed my work? By now I assume you have, but you can always visit my portfolio on my website. You can also check out my blog, FB page, and Instagram
  2. What do you expect to be included in your session as far as props? My style is simple. My focus is capturing emotion and connection in a mix of candid and posed portraits. Some photographers elaborate on prop setups and although I do some of those for mini sessions, planned portrait sessions, etc, it’s not typically my style. I bring a few props, chairs, buckets, etc but I connect with the people most importantly. But don’t be discouraged from bringing some props! Is twister your favorite game and you want me to capture that? Bring it! Do you have a memory bear from a grandparent that recently passed, let’s incorporate it!
  3. What does post editing look like for you? Do you want overly edited and vintage or hazy processed photos? Some photographers do that and do it well, but that’s not my style! I am more into crisp, light and airy photos that look like you are right there in the moment. That’s my style and you will see that in my work!
  4. Do you trust the advice of your professional photographer? I have been in the business for over 15 years, and so I have a ton of experience of when its best to reschedule (weather, illness, etc) or what props do and don’t work, or are or are not safe for newborns. I know what locations work best at what times of day, as well as how many outfits fit well into a senior portrait session. If you trust the advice of your professional photographer, I am the right fit for you!
  5. Do you understand that each family, newborn, and senior are different? Although it is super easy to fall into the trends of TikTok or Pinterest, not every pose, trend, or outfit will work for your portrait session. Keep realistic expectations and cater your session around you, as well as keep in mind if that is also the style of your photographer as well!

I look forward to working with you if I check all of your boxes, but I do understand if I am not the right fit. I always tell my clients that they are my people. I value them, their time, their families, and their values because they also value me, my time, my business and my family. We all just work really well together. I encourage my clients to ask any questions they may have before there session so I can make sure that mesh well together, but also most importantly provide them with the experience that they invested in, and expect!
