How to store Digital Photos

Although we all love digital photos, there are a few steps needed to make sure you keep them safe! Since you cannot physically hold onto them, its important to find out where to store them in the digital world. There are just a few steps to take to make sure your digital images are safe and secure!

Download your Full Gallery

Although your gallery is available for two weeks after your session, it is super important to download them immediately to your computer. Life gets busy, so it’s important to complete this step before your gallery expires.

Back up the Files on an External Hard Drive

Although computers are convenient, anything can happen. It’s important to back up your files to an external hard drive just in case anything happens to your computer. Store this hard drive in a separate location.

When you hook up your hard drive- simply create a new file and name it how you wish and transfer your images by dragging and dropping them into that folder, easy as that!

Store the photos on a USB or a 2nd External Hard Drive

Although it may seem like overkill, its incredibly important to have a backup option to your backup. Alls it takes is one crashed computer or a natural disaster to lose those memories, so by placing your images in several different locations this allows for safe and secure storage to preserve those memories!

Consider using the Cloud for an additional backup option

Its very easy to find cloud storage these days, so make sure you take advantage of this backup. You can use services like Backblaze, Crashplan, Amazon Drive or Dropbox to backup these files. This is also convenient because these files can be accessed remotely and anywhere!

Print your Photos

Most importantly, make sure to print your files! You didn’t make an investment for them to sit on a computer to enjoy, so make sure you print and frame your favorites, create an album, or a scrapbook of your memories!

We rely so much on Social Media to archive our images, but anything could happen to any social media site anyday, so make sure you are utilizing other reliable sources to backup your images! The more places your images exist, the more likely you will be able to view and enjoy them for years to come!
